My Pastry…sort of
4.5 cups of flour (I prefer my crust a little more ‘short’ than the standard recipe with 5 cups )
1 lb Lard(I prefer to shortening)
1 tsp salt
In a cup measure, mix 1 egg, ¼ cup of vinegar then fill up cup with water.
I use a large bowl, placing the flour and salt, then cutting the lard up until its the size of peas. Then I mix in the liquid mixture. Bring it to the point it holds together in a ball. (sometimes I need to add a little more water). This makes about enough for 5 single crusts.
My Nana, always made the pie crusts when I was growing up. Mum said she could not handle the rolling pin.(she had lost two fingers on her right hand) Nana always used shortening, and 5 cups of flour to begin with. But I believe this is the same recipe found on the shortening box.
