This recipe is from what I can remember watching my Nana make it. Its the filling used between two layers of pie crust. A lot of people do not use real meat, but that was always the way she made it. I think this is pretty close to her recipe. (She had never written it down to my knowledge.)
1 lb hamburger browned….minced a second time(Nana used deer meat)
6 lb apples peeled and diced
1 small container mixed peel
¾ L apple juice
1 -2 tsp ground cloves
4 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp all spice
1 c white sugar
3 c brown sugar
¼ c lemon juice or more to taste
Simmer 1- 2 hrs
Add raisins and currents 1 c each
Once cooked up, use as pie filling.
